While the Nevada minimum wage is set to increase to $5.85 for employees who qualify for health benefits and $6.85 for those who do not, the employer should keep in mind the federal minimum wage which will increase to $6.55 on 07/24/08. This increase will affect those employees being paid the $5.85 rate.
The Nevada Office of the Labor Commissioner confirmed the fact that employers will need to, at the very least, match the federal wage. In other words, those employees qualifying for health benefits will have two pay increases in July as follows: July 1, increase to $5.85 and again on July 24, to $6.55 to match the federal wage.
Employees NOT qualifying for health benefits will see the initial increase to $6.85 effective July 1,2008.
It will increase to $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009.
